How Much Wax Do You Need Per Candle?

Wax is measured by weight (grams), not by volume (ml). A jar that holds 300ml of liquid doesn't need 300g of wax — the density of soy wax is about 0.86 g/ml, so a 300ml jar needs roughly 258g of total fill.

From that total fill, the fragrance oil takes up a share. At 8% fragrance load: fragrance = 258 × 0.08 = 20.6g. Wax = 258 − 20.6 = 237.4g.

Why Add a Waste Buffer?

Some wax always sticks to the pouring pot and some overflow occurs. A 5–10% buffer ensures you don't run short mid-batch. For large batches, use a smaller buffer; for hand-pouring small runs, 8–10% is safe.
